Many people, especially tourists, write to the shelter that they found a dog or a cat and they want to help the animal.
I WANT TO ADOPT A DOG I FOUND
How do i do it?
- Make sure the dog doesn’t have an owner.
- Take it to a vet ( see addresses below)
- Call the airline
- As the dog must be 21 days in quarantine, you have to find a paid kennel or a foster. You can do that by asking the local animal welfare pages or look on facebook.
- Read our The First Weeks page
- Pick it up or arrange a flight.
- Live a happy life!
How to Assist a Dog in Distress
I WANT TO HELP A POOR DOG
Is it well fed? Does it look fine?
Great, maybe an animal in need but no emergency. It might be owned or well-know and fed by someone; but it also might be in danger of being run over by a car or being poisoned. If you have time, ask people living nearby. They will know if the dog is from that area, who the owner is or if it is new and either ran away or was abandoned.
There is a poor dog on a leash…
If the dog looks healthy, it might not be an emergency. However, if it seems restrained without care, fresh water, food…, consider asking locals for more information or inform the police. If the dog appears ill or injured, immediate action is needed. There are laws now on how long an animal is allowed to be on a leash and how long the leash has to be. You can report the situation to the local authorities, and if you prefer, this can be done anonymously through the police.
